Montreal, January 24, 2024 - From April 20 to 27, Semaine Dynastie festivities will begin under the theme of “Build your Dynastie.” The two Soirées (Médias and Culture) for Gala Dynastie’s 8th edition will be held in the heart of Place des Arts on April 21, at the Cinquième Salle, and April 27, at Théâtre Maisonneuve, respectively.
Organized by Fondation Dynastie and presented by TD Bank Group in collaboration with SODEC, Gala Dynastie seeks to highlight and celebrate the achievements of creators in media, culture, and the arts from Quebec’s Black communities. For 7 years, this pioneering event has bestowed awards on more than 150 creators and highlighted the talent of more than 700 finalists. Gala Dynastie is now a not-to-be-missed event and a source of pride that shines a light on the contributions of Afro-descendant people in Quebec. For the second year in a row, Natyf TV will serve as the official broadcaster for the Gala Soirées.
The charming Naadei returns to host the Soirée Médias
Multidisciplinary artist Naadei will return as the host of the Soirée Médias for the third consecutive year. She has worked as a content creator and host on a variety of TV and radio shows. As a singer-songwriter, Naadei immersed herself in the world of music for many years now and has collaborated with big names, including Wyclef Jean. More recently, she landed a role in the French TV series Avant le crash.
“I am particularly proud to be part of the Gala Dynastie team again this year! This will be the third time that I’ve been entrusted with hosting duties, and I feel like I’m starting to become a part of the family. I sense that the 8th edition, presented under the theme of ‘Building your Dynasty,’ will take on its full meaning during this evening itself: Investing in one’s community means actively taking part in the building of a more promising future for this generation and those to come,” noted host, actress, and artist Naadei
The Soirée Médias will take place on Sunday, April 21, at Place des Arts’ Cinquième Salle.
Renewed hosting energy for the Soirée Culture
After five memorable years hosting this event, Preach will be passing the reins to a key player in the Quebec comedy scene. Garihanna Jean-Louis is the first and only Black woman to graduate from the École nationale de l’humour and has quickly established herself as a comedian in this province and internationally thanks to her incisive style that reflects both her Haitian roots and her upbringing here in Quebec. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including artist of the year at Zoofest in 2022 and the Gémeaux Awards in 2021, People's Choice award at Gala Dynastie in 2020, and newcomer of the year in 2017 and 2018 at the Festival International du Rire Lol Fest Haïti. For the first time, she will be tasked with hosting Gala Dynastie’s prestigious Soirée Culture to be held on Saturday, April 27, at Place des Arts’ Théâtre Maisonneuve.
“I’m grateful and very honoured to be hosting an event that is so close to my heart that I’ve secretly wanted this gig since 2018! This celebration, which highlights Black excellence, always holds a special place in my yearly calendar. I’m particularly delighted about the central role afforded this year to Black heritage and women. The public can look forward to a gala filled with all the color and flavor they expect,” noted actress, comedian, and host Garihanna Jean-Louis.
A rousing theme: “Build your Dynastie”
The theme for this 8th edition draws its inspiration from works carried forward by the ancestors who marked the passage of time. “Build your Dynastie” implies a personal responsibility for finding fulfillment and leading the way for future generations.
“This is more than a celebration of the achievements of Afro-descendant artists and artisans; we aim to act in a lasting way and serve as catalysts for change to drive the success of our communities. Fondation Dynastie’s events provide the public with opportunities to not only discover the talents of industry professionals, but also to support up-and-coming creators,” said Carla Beauvais, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Fondation Dynastie.
