Census

The census is done at two levels.

Research
A person responsible for coordinating the census does research to find potential candidates in each category. She contacts potential candidates to invite them to submit their applications.

Form
Those interested can submit an application by completing the application form.

WHO CAN REGISTER AND HOW DO I REGISTER?

Anyone from Black communities can register. The main condition to be respected in order to be eligible in a category is that the projects or achievements submitted have been marketed (a strategy put in place to promote and promote projects or achievements) or have had significant influence.

It is possible to register in several categories, but you have to fill out one form per category. It is only possible to submit one project or achievement per category.
An application can be submitted by the person himself or by a third party (with permission).

To apply, bidders must complete the online registration form and provide the required documentation no later than August 31, 2023.

What to know before submitting an application

Form

It is important to complete the online form. It is possible to save the form and submit it only after it has been completed.

pictures

A recent and professional photo of the candidate must also be uploaded and the following specifications must be respected: 300 dpi, jpeg format, portrait and upper body type. A horizontal orientation (landscape) is preferred. The submitted photo will be used for the promotion and nomination of the candidate. Maximum image size = 10MB.

VIDEO/AUDIO/IMAGES:

It is essential to submit links to your multimedia content when submitting your application. Or links: Vimeo, YouTube, Daily Motion, Spotify or other distribution platforms. In some categories, images (jpeg format) will also have to be provided.
Bidders are personally responsible for ensuring the quality of the material submitted (audio or visual). Jurors will have to rely on the material attached to the form.
It is required to clearly identify (with your name or project name) the text or photo files in order to facilitate archiving.

Jury

Composition of specialized juries

The juries are formed according to the specific professional qualifications of the persons who constitute them and are made up of three or four people per sectoral jury category.

The members of the juries must meet in order to deliberate. The decisions of the juries concerning the nominations and the choice of winners must be a majority after obtaining the broadest possible consensus.

Each member is carefully selected based on their excellence in their field, their contribution to the industry and their recognition by their peers.

The juries must follow a rigorous process to assess each of the applications submitted by category. The first round will determine the five finalists per category. The second round will determine the recipient by category.

Francophone artist or musical group of the year

This category is for French-speaking artists from Black communities who have marketed an album in Quebec (minimum 5 songs - original creation) during the eligibility period. All candidates must be resident in Quebec.

Musical revelation of the year

This category is for artists or musical groups in all languages combined or for instrumental expression with no more than one (1) album in their career. Artists must be from Black communities. The artist or group must have popularized and marketed a song and/or video during the eligibility period. All candidates must be resident in Quebec.

This category is for artists from Black communities who have marketed an album, in French, English, in another language or instrumental during the eligibility period. The artist or group must have been noticed and known outside Quebec and their influence must be significant.

This category is for French and English speaking artists from Black communities who have made a documentary or fiction film that was broadcast publicly (web, TV, cinema) during the eligibility period. All candidates must be resident in Quebec.

Visual artist of the year

This category is intended for French and English visual artists from Black communities who have distinguished themselves for the excellence, originality and remarkable quality of their works as part of an exhibition that took place during the eligibility period in Quebec. The works concern the following mediums: painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, printmaking, or mixed media. All candidates must be resident in Quebec.

Comedian of the Year

This category is for French and English-speaking comedians from Black communities, who had significant humorous appearances (stage, television, radio, web) during the eligibility period. All candidates must be resident in Quebec.

Author or Writer of the Year

This category is intended for authors and/or writers of French and English speaking from Black communities who have published a book with a publisher or at his own expense during the eligibility period. The author must submit a book that is available in bookstores, libraries or via the Internet. Eligible genres are: novels/poetry/stories, stories, stories and short stories/general interest/youth. All candidates must be resident in Quebec.

This category is intended for artists or musical groups (all languages combined and instrumental) from Black communities who have marketed a video clip in Quebec during the eligibility period. The video should illustrate a song and the artist's work. Only one video per artist or group can be submitted. All candidates must be resident in Quebec.

This category is for dance professionals from Black communities. Candidates must have presented a choreographic work in Quebec or abroad during the eligibility period. The contribution of candidates to the dance world will also be decisive. All candidates must be resident in Quebec.
